  1. Take an inventory of your skills, experience, and desires.

  2. Find out what jobs or careers match your current inventory.

  3. Explore those options and decide which ones are worth pursuing.

  4. Find organizations that have those jobs (a great place to start is examining old job listings and perusing LinkedIn profiles).

  5. Learn as much as you can about each place and the individuals working there before formally approaching them.
